SALEM & GLOUCESTER - MAY 7, 2014

We had a wonderful evening last night having dinner with aunt Jean, Karen, Tom, Don, Mark and I. After dinner, Don showed us his favorite pub, the Thirsty Whale. It was a fun evening.

Today, Karen and Don came to visit at our RV. Karen produced her tour guide list that Mark and I followed to sightsee Salem and Gloucester.

Sue and Wayne had their RV in the service bay at Detroit Diesel this morning. They joined us here at Beach Rose for tonight.

In Salem, we saw the House of the Seven Gables, bought a witchy T-shirt in their shop, drove US127 into Rockport and Gloucester. We visited the memorial to nearly 6000 men who died at sea in Gloucester.  We enjoyed the beautiful coast, quaint tree-lined streets and eventually found Farnam's where we stopped for clam chowder.

Gloucester ... lobster buoys at low tide.

Man at the Wheel ... Gloucester Fishermen's Memorial.

The circle of granite stones lists the names of the men lost each year in shipwrecks ... tragically leaving widows and children.

Over 600 ships sunk in this region!

Robbie, Mark and Maggie at the granite sea wall. Granite is so plentiful here that all curbs are cut from slabs rather than from poured concrete.

In Salem ...

This beautiful flowering tree flanked the sign.

The oldest building on the Seven Gables property.

The house in Daniel Hawthorne's novel

Mark liked this pretty B & B.

Flowering False Pear trees flank the streets of Salem.

The architecture and gardens were beautiful.

Farnham's ... Where the locals enjoy seafood.

Robbie, with clam chowder in his beard. LOL

Mark and I arrived home at 3:40 just as Sue and Wayne were leaving the camp to sightsee.

Mirror images ... Dinner on the Merrimack River at Not Your Average Joe's ... and all was excellent.
