SUNDAY, AUGUST 25, 2013

Mark has often been told he resembles (former) President George W. Bush. Hee hee hee

Mark, the "Dogfather" grooming Robbie the Bruce's beard.

These are our favorite Bushisms:

Good Sunday morning, y'all.  Hope you enjoyed the preceding ... (former) President George W. Bush was always able to laugh at himself; and he had a great laugh ... "Hee hee hee".

We four are off to breakfast this morning and later in the afternoon to Rose and Charlie Dowling's for the annual Shriners fish fry.  It's forecast to be hot and humid.

After breakfast we all went to Canadian Tire where Mark bought jack stands for the RV landing pads and Wayne bought propane and a new outdoor light for Mark to install. "The big W" as Mark says. Haha.

Riding in the Gator to Dowling's ... just a mile up the road.

Hangin' on!!!  No parking problem with the Gator.

John Harbottle and Mark at the Shriner's Fish Fry.

Dinner for 130 patrons went smoothly as it was was well organized.

Charlie, in blue, oversaw the affair with grace.

Everyone enjoyed the camaraderie.

Rose, in turquoise, was, as usual, calm and competant.

It was a very good afternoon, albeit, hot and humid!

Sue and Wayne took Julius and Shorty for an evening boat ride. Mark and Julie were into watching a Brad Pitt cinematic disaster, "The Mexican".  Well-known actors tried their best to bring some credibility to a poorly written script.  Finally at 10 o'clock the movie ended with a far-fetched shoot out. I guess it ended with a bang. LOL

SATURDAY, AUGUST 24, 2014

The forecast rain skirted to the north so it looks like a hot day is in store for us.
Julius enjoying the morning sun while watching chipmunks scurry about.

Downtown Kenora has 21 murals created by various artists from 1995 to 2003. It's a pedestrian friendly city, worth a stroll. These are a few of our favorites.

This evening, Joanne and Doug dropped over and had salad, cheese bread, potatoes and veggies with beef tenderloin. It was a nice evening.

The rain pittered down, a few flashes of lightening and the night cooled down.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 23, 2013

Although the season is drawing to a close, the late August weather is spectacular!  This evening is the final dock party this summer and will be held at Dawn Fraser's home ... Julie's elementary school friend.

Everyone was busy today ... Sue was fall cleaning, Wayne puttering about the yard, Mark and Julie doing the marketing.

The dock party was terrific. Dawn single-handed the setup and it was perfect. There were lots of wonderful appetizers.

The party kicked off in earnest.

Brenda arriving; greeted by Dawn and Sue Hudson.

Donna and Denis Wallace enjoyed the crowd.

Judy Rousseau, John Gale and Don Hudson.

The doctors arriving, Brian and Brenda Peters aboard their jet ski.

Doug McKim and Joanne Dunford at the party.

It was a wonderful night ... not too hot; indeed perfect. Wayne fired up the Windsorcraft and we headed for home about 9 o'clock.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 2013

MaryBeth and Monty Flom's party was fun. Rose and Charlie Dowling joined us for the short boat ride there. Joyce and Jim Gauthier came on their golf cart, Heather and Bruce drove.

MaryBeth baked a wonderful wild blueberry pie ... and there was a pineapple bean salad, potato salad, burgers and hot dogs. Monty did the grilling.  Tom Flom, a tiny Shih Tsu, made his appearance for half an hour before climbing the stairs to bed.

TwoWaggingTales came up in conversation. Sue was CERTAIN ... no downright POSITIVE the Blog name had an apostrophe in place of the "g". Joyce wondered aloud and wound up in Sue's argument. The antics continued long past the proof on MaryBeth's iPad. Jim was absolutely delighted Sue and Joyce would have to admit defeat that he prepared a "letter" they should sign. It was comical.  Joyce signed, but Sue would not admit defeat. Jim loved it all.

And so we all headed home after a fun night. LOL

Julie captured the moon's reflection on their ride home.

Today began warm and sunny. Wayne and Mark went to Home Hardware for project supplies. Julie is hanging sage green curtains to go with the new bedding on the queen bed.

Sue is preparing Beefsteak Italian for tonight. Yummy.

Rick Moir called to see how everyone is and chatted. It was good to hear from him.  He and Ruth leave home the first of October for Florida and we'll be happy to see them there!

Wayne is taking Shorty for a haircut today. Get the band aids and Polysporin ready. LOL

The lord and master, Shorty, with Wayne. :-)))

Mark tidied around the new shed and burned the brush.

Mark quite obviously loves this chore. Haha.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21, 2013

Oh what a night !  Last evening we four hopped into the Tahoe for an evening cruise around the bay.  MaryBeth and Monty were cruising in their Princecraft too. It was lovely and calm.

Dawn Fraser's boathouse reflecting nicely.

When we turned west, we saw it ... a front rolling in silently.

Wayne turned the Tahoe for home where blueberry crumble and ice cream was waiting.

The boathouse flags were limp.

Half an hour later, Mark and Julie were leaving Bears Lair to walk down the flagstone steps to Chippy's Hollow and heard distant rolling thunder. In the minute or two it took to get in the cottage door, the wind was whipping, lightening flashing and hail coming down!  (Sue said Julie is not allowed to talk about the lack of severe weather as twice it brought on a hellacious storm.) LOL

Hail began pelting down and the power began a series of brownouts before succumbing to the weather at 9:40 pm.

The light show was spectacular; lightening fired in rapid secession, the cottage eerily lit.

This morning we awoke to mist on the bay and silence that comes with no electricity; no refrigerator, no fan. Even the loons were quiet.

One poplar tree snapped in half near the driveway, but otherwise, no visible damage.

About 11 am we heard the Ontario Power company helicopter flying the power lines. Their pilot is amazingly skilled. He flies quickly along the lines, inspecting for damage.

Helicopter buzzing Chippy's Hollow.

Finally, around 2 in the afternoon, power was restored and life resumed its pace.

Tonight is a casual dinner party at MaryBeth and Monty Flom's.  Word's out  she baked a wild blueberry pie. :-)

TWO'S DAY, AUGUST 20, 2013

Are you feeling hot hot hot? It's forecast to be 90F today!  Yes, but why am I up at 4 a.m.?  I doubt it's to hear a TimeLife ad for "The Golden Age of Country" ... Haha.

Apparently, I was up early to chat with Michael Wills online, and discover an old photo he posted. Circa 1990, from Klaus Moeller's wedding in Pompano Beach, Florida. It was a happy event.  Our mom is in between Sue and Julie and is lookin' great.

Mark, Julie and Sue went to town for retail therapy and used their $10 off cards at Shopper's Drug then onto the LCBO and Keewatin Place.   For our friends who haven't been to Kenora, it's a unique city!  Shopper's Drug Mart, as well as many stores, are easily accessible by boat.

MONDAY, AUGUST 19, 2013

Awoke to nothingness, a deep fog covering the lake, still waters, silence. On the stone path, cottages shrouded from view ... a low fog brings good weather, so say the Sicilians.

Canadians know a thing or two about fog  ... Canada, (Indian name for "Big Village") has more lakes than the rest of the world combined!

Kyle and Gavin got their wish ... more fishing! Grandpa Wayne and Mark took them on the Tahoe once the sun started to burn through the mist.

Fishing near the pros!!!

Mark showing off their catch :-)

Meanwhile, friend and neighbor, Joanne, had her dog, Timber, take off this morning with a neighborhood roamer, Shady Lady. About 3 weeks ago, we 'rescued' this mischief maker and found her owners. Apparently, Shady Lady has an admirer in Timber. Worrisome, we know there's a wolf on our road!

After lunch, Gavin, Nana Sue and Julie play Mexican Dominoes for a couple of rounds. Then, Kyle and Julie went to Chippy's Hollow to finish the wind chime.

Kyle with his project.

Lookin' good ... Gavin and Kyle.

Wayne and Sue drove the boys to Falcon for their week's holiday and enjoyed a visit.

Julie and Mark watched two frisky muskrats diving for crabs while sipping a cocktail. Maggie and Robbie watched intently, but didn't move. When a muskrat finally spotted us, it started an alarming chirping sound that went on for 10 minutes or more!!!  We wondered maybe babies were about?

Sue, Wayne, Julius and Shorty joined us about 6 and we had salad, crusty rolls, fish fry and rice. A black mink skirted under Chippy's Hollow.

We sat and watched the moon rise; a warm, sticky evening and called it a day about 10.
