WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 5, 2013

Afternoon delight ... "Mom and the kids" at Kurian's driveway!

It was a busy day of odds 'n sods. Sue prepared tonight's feast ... Wayne took the Prevost for a drive (Mark moved our Grand Junction so Wayne could move his Prevost), and Julie did laundry!  And that was before noon!

During the afternoon, Wayne and Mark went with the Gator to pick up Doug's burn barrel. And, the new shed is in town and awaiting delivery. So it may be even busier this weekend!!!

Sue took this cute pic of Chippy in his favorite tree!

The young bucks stopped in about dinner time ... one buck a rich red and the other a honey blonde.

Dinner was very good ...vermouth pork chops, sweet potatoes and salad. Blueberry cobbler was an excellent dessert.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 6, 2013

At 4 in the morning, this time of year, it's totally dark outside. A loon's plaintive call echoes across the bay. Why am I up?  Sue will ask me that!  Maybe because this is the most peaceful time of day ...

Although the day began with rain, it cleared by afternoon.  Sue, Wayne, Mark and Julie lunched at Boston Pizza with Lynne and Les Stevenson. It was great to spend time with them and perfect for a cool afternoon. Everyone in town, it seemed, had the same idea. There wasn't a parking space to be had!!!  After lunch we went our separate ways to shop.

Doug McKim came over about 4 to cut down a dead tree. Mark and Wayne assisted.

This evening, Mark and the Scotties had to pause to let a big doe cross the road!  She's in the picture, but hiding in the trees. Julie thought she would get a great pic when the doe moved, but all she got was a white tail !  LOL

MONDAY, AUGUST 5, 2013

The long weekend is winding down. Mark and Julie had lunch at Ye Olde Chip Truck, a Kenora favorite before grocery shopping.

Next, we went to the Beer Store and returned the wine bags and bottles for deposit refund. Yes, there were a few!  LOL

Wayne called that we were going on a boat ride!  A perfect day ... the bay full of boats!

Cocktail hour was a potion of vodka with either Blue Raspberry or Cranberry. Julie poured Archie sized drinks. LOL

An hour later, lasagna and garlic bread was served at Chippy's Hollow. Yummy!

SUNDAY, AUGUST 4, 2013

It's a sunny Sunday morning!  We're off to Yesterdays for breakfast.

There's an antique car show along the harbour front today.

After, Wayne went to see the antique boats while Sue, Mark and Julie went to a moving sale to look at a table. The table was in poor condition and we discovered a host of pets needing new homes!!!  Sue made a call to "It's A Dog's Life" to see what could be done!

Here's a pic of the fawn rescued yesterday. Hope it found mom and is okay. It certainly was bleating like a sheep during the rescue.

Happy Hour today was extra special. Dessert and champagne BEFORE dinner!

Steaks on the BBQ for dinner with salad and baked potatoes!  A great food day!

SATURDAY, AUGUST 3, 2013

Harbourfest, an August long weekend event in Kenora is in full swing at the Whitecap Pavilion. Traffic was crazy last night with cottagers and concert goers alike arriving.

Mark went hiking today, first to check the condition of Kurian's property outskirts. He found "someone" had dumped old tires and styrofoam!  Of course he hauled them out of the woods. Next, Mark hiked to the Kenricia gold mine; an area of 520 acres near Chippy's Hollow.  He didn't find gold but lots of raspberries and a few blueberries!

Sue and Wayne went to town shoe shopping today while Julie baked a Razzleberry pie for tonight's dinner.

Caesar salad, chicken on the "Q", and fries served on the glider is tonight's plan. Right now there's a cool north wind so we might be eating inside. ;-/

After dinner, Jim Gauthier came by in his pontoon boat looking for help in rescuing a fawn from a rock. Wayne and Mark jumped into action. Jim got the boat close and Mark stepped into the water, nabbed the fawn and carried it to high ground. Our hero!

Sue ordered a bonfire started and we sat outside until 11. We could hear a lot of partiers around the bay.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 2, 2013

Mark has been a good sport learning to play 4 handed Cribbage.  Wednesday night at Bear's Lair, we were all tired but decided to play "to give our brains a workout". Well it was quite a workout. Wayne gave Mark, (his partner) a monologue of how to prevent Sue and Julie from pegging. Julie, knowing how Mark absorbs instructions, wasn't surprised when Mark played a card taking the round to 21. Wayne freaked ... Sue played a face card and made it 31 for 2. Lots of laughs!  Mark had heard "blah blah blah 15 21 31".  Haha. So, we now have our own Crib board at Chippy's Hollow to practice on.

Today, Wayne and Mark are going to Falcon Lake for fuel and burgers at Bob's while Sue and Julie are going with Rose to Lake of the Woods Brewery for lunch then shopping.

Lunch was very good ... All of us bought something in town and so supported the local economy.

Two Blue Jays came to dine at the old stump outside Bear's Lair kitchen window. Wayne tried to get a pic of two large does on their driveway, but no luck.

Dinner this evening was fish, roasted veggies and leftover rice or spaghetti. We sat around the new (comfortable) dining room table and gabbed. Early to bed this evening; everyone was tired.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 1, 2013

It's a crazy day !!!  Laundromat full, machines not working ... but Julie got it done plus shopped for dinner.

Arrived back to Chippy's Hollow in time to crew for Wayne aboard Carlson's 54' Hatteras.

Julie's time at the helm was nearly as short as Randy's time at the wheel of the Prevost!!!  But, it was a nice, uneventful trip.

Bruce picked us up at Northern Harbour; Mark stayed at camp on dog walking duty.  (He had a ride last Tuesday when Wayne delivered the boat for canvas work.)

Julie took a picture from the bow of Sue and Wayne at the helm ... But not before they snapped one of her!

Tonight, Chinese food for dinner at Chippy's Hollow followed by a game of Crib.
